Reverse Selfie (Book)

'Reverse Selfie' is a collection of poems inspired by the muse of Tulsa’s landmarks. Complementing each poem written by Victoria McArtor, this collection contains photographs by Matthew Phipps of the inspirational sites from our beautiful city. Through verbal and visual artistry, the collection captures the spirit of Tulsa, all the while encouraging readers to look out and experience the grandeur which life offers.

Narcissus was beautiful. Greek mythology tells us that his looks had no rival. And he was proud, self-absorbed. Finding his reflection in a still pool, Narcissus became fixated on his appearance. He never left the image of his reflection.

Reflective pools are prevalent today in our snap-and-share culture. We take selfies to tell our life story. Too often, self-worth is determined by the number of likes on a social media post. We’ve spent too much time gazing into reflective pools.

Through the Reverse Selfie Project, MUSED. has worked to transform self-obsession into self-awareness through poetry and reflection for the first generation of students who have never lived without technology at their fingertips.

100% of proceeds from Reverse Selfie will benefit students of the Reverse Selfie Project, a 6-week critical and creative writing workshop in Tulsa Public Schools, teaching literacy and emotional literacy to the first generation of students who have never lived without technology at their fingertips.
